Cool, I went in 2008 and 2009. Not the best racing unfortunately but the track is only a little over an hour drive from my house (just south of DC) so it is a lot easier to get to then any other IRL race.

From the build news:

Quote
Although all official races at RIR in Season 3 will be run at night, hosted races and test sessions have the option of running day or night.

Re: New build sneak peak

The new transmission model is great.  And the best thing is that it completely eliminates throttle braking!!  Time to start driving realistically you alien dickholes!

I've only spent time in the V8 so far but you can still downshift without the clutch(flat upshifts) if you time your blips and downshifts properly.  I started out missing shifts all the time but starting to get used to it and find the sweet spot for each gear.

So far, I'm Lovin' It.tm

Re: New build sneak peak

I'm excited for the new tranny model for sequentials, for sure.  Haven't got to try it out yet.

I also haven't been on the iRacing forum in a few days - are there any discussions in how lap times compare with the new transmission model with and without auto clutch/blip?  I have never used them anyway, but I am always curious how good this assist is for the folks that do use it.

Re: New build sneak peak

Well in a nutshell guys that don't use auto clutch/blip will be slower in straight line acceleration but prolly make up for that a bit during downshifting because they don't have to rev match or time anything and will be more consistant throughout a race.  iRacing has made it so if you are using the aids you have to lift to upshift, while if your not using aids and the car has throttle cut you can still flat shift it.

Re: New build sneak peak

Yea ..  I'm going to have to learn how to handle each car now.  The shifting is way cool and way more challenging, even in the star.  Downshifting is much harder in the star now.  I can't just fly down the gears ..even with auto auto on.  It actually helps.  I have to be smooth now. (Hek is about 1 sec off Vitters time at Road America and I'm below my monkey +10 threshhold)

The mustang ..I'll need to figure out what to do with that beast.  The shifting is really slow in auto now so I'll have to either man up or get more practice with timing.

I won't be manning up anytime soon.  Either way I think they did a good job of making shifts (or more importantly) the time to shift more realistic.

I'm sure there is going to be lots of heated debate on the forums as usual , and monkey will be in every room preaching like Ted Haggard,  but when the dust settles I think this moves Iracing in the right direction.  The fact that the transmissions between cars feels so different from car to car means they put the right amount of time and effort into this.  I'm sorry but I am going to go with iracing on this one since they have a stable of 'real' drivers and consultants who work with these cars in real life.  There is going to be some give and take on the 'realism' since this is all 1's and 0's and not actual physical items.  There is only so far you can go with simulation at this level and programming power right now.

Rock on iracing!

Re: New build sneak peak

I only ran the star last night (and I'm more like 2 seconds off Craig's so far) and I was able to shift without lifting with auto-clutch on.  Most of the time, I was hitting the rev limiter, but I'm pretty sure it is not necessary to lift in this car using the assist.

The increased realism in the transmission model is seriously pushing me toward making the improvements to my setup so that I can add the H-shifter and "man up" too.

I've decided to let other people do the preaching.. lmao.

Hek you may want to be careful upshifting with autoclutch in some cars.  The Mazda can handle quite a bit of rev limiter banging and abuse, but some other cars can't.

You can shift almost every car in iRacing without the clutch anyway... if you have a clutch pedal, turn assists off and just use it to take off.  LFB and blip downshifts.  As for the Mustang I'm not sure how it is with auto clutch on.. people say it's slow as balls but I think they're doing it wrong, or it's fine and they're just used to insta shifts like before.

I agree though, iRacing definitely did the right thing as far as realism goes.  I was a bit skeptical of the transmission model since we can't actually feel anything, I know I rely on feel a LOT when I shift in real life.  I'm absolutely loving the new transmission model, and I can't help but laugh at the aliens who are struggling with it since they can't throttle brake anymore Wink  Most aliens slowed down several tenths and are now at my pace.  I didn't have to change a thing, I was already driving this way before the transmission model.

Re: New build sneak peak

If it makes you feel better Hek I ran about 10 laps tonight in the Star and barely got to 2:08. Tough track. I am over braking into corners and can't get near the corners without getting loose.
