Need for Speed World Online Beta

Open mentioned earlier in chat that he was accepted for the beta.  Upon some searching, I discovered that they are still taking entrants for the closed beta.  I signed up earlier today, and was accepted into the beta within a few hours.  I believe the Beta will officially start March 5...so if anyone else would like to try and get in on it, click the link below:

NFS World Online is a Free-to-Play MMO Racing game.  Here's the Wikipedia link:

I realize this is NFS and probably going to be on the arcade side not the sim side of things, but it will likely be some nonetheless.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

I'm actually looking forward to this.  If it winds up being half as detailed as MCO sounds like it was, NFS:WO should be fun.  I'm wary because the car list looks like the more recent NFS games, but with the power of the pc and modding communities, car lists don't matter as much here.

Its awesome that you got into the beta within just a few hours of signing up.  It also makes their selection process curious.  Another forum's members signed up when I did about a month ago and weren't selected, lol.

Hello?!?

Cyborgs always get moved to the front of the queue - Serial is on THE LIST.  They won't even bother emailing me the rejection letter.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Maybe it has to do with how those questions were answered ?  Based on my answers, I've played every NFS title except Nitro, buy more than 6 games a years, play on PC and 360, and enjoy Sim and Arcade racing games (and some others).  I'm guessing that has some influence on your likelibonnet of getting chosen ?

Another thing - I JUST realized the closed Beta is only for 4 days..... Cry

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Yeah, I'm wondering if they'll wind up doing the beta in sessions.  Take info from those four days, apply any necessary fixes and release the next weekend perhaps?  I'm not sure how it'll work as I've never beta tested.  From the info I've read on the NFS:W forums, most are saying Summer 2010 release so it may only be the few days.

In other news, there's some stuff leaking on TDU2..

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

I was just getting the game ready last night, downloading and installing.  Then it gave me the option to play - the servers were up !  So, I then proceeded to play for about 45mins or so.  I popped back onto Live to see if Open was around but didn't see him.  So here's my quick synopsis.

It is very arcadey, as was to be expected.  It feels like most of the other NFS games, such as Underground/Most Wanted/etc. in driving feel.
The world as of now kind of feels like Underground2/Carbon/Most Wanted, which isnt' a bad thing.
The only multiplayer races I participated in were 2 to 3 drivers total, but it looks like the Beta allows for up to 8 per race.
There were not many people online with me last night, so finding a race was kind of difficult.  It doesn't seem to tell you when people are waiting/wanting to race.
There are "powerups" - NOS, a "traffic magnet" you can "cast" on another driver in a race, and a cool one called "one more lap", where you can extend the race by 1 lap.
Powerups are earned I believe through racing.
You have a driver level, and as you gain XP you get a higher level, more money, more powerups, and unlock better cars.  Also, there are different "upgrades" you can do like giving a boost off the line, or a longer NOS boost as you level up - you use some points system and spend them on the upgrades.
There doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade you car parts or tune at all.
There is a livery system which doesn't seem too bad.  Numbers are available, along with some other shapes and things, but no letters.
I've only raced on a few tracks but they seem pretty cool.  I believe you unlock more events as you go, since each one only allows certain Level drivers to get in, for example 1-3, 2-4, etc.
Races have been short so far, but they may get longer as you progress.  So far I've seen 2 different race types, "Sprint" and "Circuit", but I believe there are/will be others such as drag.

Anybody want to know anything about it ?  I know we're not a NFS club/clan/cult but since it's Free to Play it could garner some interest among some of us.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

You know, after racing last night I sat looking at the NFS icon thinking about whether to try it or not.  lol...

So they don't have the visual tuning up yet?  Its supposed to be an elaborated version of the autosculpt they've had in a couple of their more recent games.

It also sounds exactly like what I hoped it wouldn't be..  I will be on tonight.

What are the available cars?

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Tier 1 is a Mazda 3, older model Charger (don't remember year), and new Eclipse GT.  That's what you can get to start with at least.  I went with the Mazdaspeed Mazda 3.

Hmm, guess I'll probably take the Charger.
How's the game running and looking on your machine, and what are your specs?

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Like trash on my PC, but that's because of my video card.  My card crapped out a month or so ago, so now I'm using a Radeon x300, which is probably below the minimum specs.  It doesn't look terrible (even though it's on Low settings), but runs kind of crappy.  I may go out later and grab a new card though, not sure yet.  So much cheaper to order, but I'm pretty impatient.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Bret, just a head's up but I had to login with the name EXOROpenSecond instead of EXOROpen2nd.  Said my name was already in use.  Looks like it may be a bug as they're discussing the problem and everyone's had it apparently.  Anyways, that's how I'm on there.

My wheel doesn't work with the game so I'm stuck playing with a keyboard/mouse.  Stopped by GameStop to see if they had any wired 360 controllers and they only had the GameStop and MadCatz ones and I am skeptical about whether those will work on the pc without jumping through hoops so I will wind up playing the beta on the keyboard/mouse.  Posted that fun little story on their boards so hopefully they'll address it...  Whatever, I'm not too impressed with the game but I'll give them my feedback anyways.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

What wheel is it Open ?  It might be worth it to try out either Joy2Key or Xpadder.  Both super easy to setup (I'm using Joy2Key to map the powerup buttons on the 360 pad for NFS World) and will probably at least yet you use the Wheel, although not as well as if it was supported natively.

Also, I've been looking for you tonight, where you been ?  I've been on NFSW for hours...

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

Open - I know you and I were the only ones invited to the first Beta (there will be more Betas guys, you should sign up if you want to try out some FUN racing - it's not sim, but it's damn fun), but I would like to maybe create a very well written set of suggestions for the game.  A PC game like this will be the best type of game to give input and see things implemented since they do not have to actually send out discs - the game can be ever changing !  There is an official feedback thread which is asking for each person's Top 5 things they want to see.  I am going to reply to that with 5 things, but want to make a nice useful list longer than that of suggestions to implement.

Re: Need for Speed World Online Beta

I'll probably put a good deal of thought into my suggestions as well.  Currently I haven't had time at work to really sort out my thoughts on the beta.  Just some things that jump at me right off though:

Better ability to communicate with friends and invite them to races.
Ability to set car tier level or driver level caps when selecting a race.
Voice chat.
Traffic settings.
NFS: Underground 2 style drag racing.
Wager racing. (Pinks or Credits)

That's all I got right now.  I'm really curious to see what upgrades will be available.  Do you know if there will be performance mods or will it all just be visual?
